This article is about creative commons license explaining what they are and how it can be used. A Creative Commons license is one of several licenses that enable free distribution of work that is otherwise copyrighted. A Creative Common License (referred to as CCL from here forward in this article) license is used when an author wants to allow people to share used and even build upon work created by the author. A CCL gives the author flexibility and the right to establish who can and cannot use their work under a CCL. It also protects the people who use or redistribute an authors work from concerns of copyright infringement as long as they abide by the conditions set for in the license by the author.

There are several types of CCLsc that differ by combinations of the terms of distribution. Work that is licensed under CCL is governed by applicable copyright law. The advantage of a license is that it applies to all work falling under the copyright, including books, plays, movies, music, articles, photographs, blogs, and website

This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak and build upon the authors wor even commercially as long as the author is credited for original creations. This is the most accommodating CCL offered.

Attribution-Share Alike

CC BY-SA

This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon the authors work even for commercial purposes as long as you credit the author and license the new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses. This license is used by Wikipedia and recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly licensed projects.

This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole with credit to you.

Attribution-NonCommercial

CC BY-NC

This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon authors work non-commercially, and their new works must also acknowledge original author and be non-commercial, they do not have to license their derivative works on the same terms.

Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike

CC BY-NC-SA

This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially as long as they credit the author and license they’re newly created under the identical terms.

Attribution-non-commercial-NoDerivs

CC BY-NC-ND

This license is the most restrictive of the six main licenses, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit the author, but they can change them in any way or use them commercially.
